Bird name: Grey Heron
Latin: Ardea cinerea
Other: Héron Cendré (Fr) • Gray Heron
Family: Ardeidae • Herons

As it turns out, a fairly common large bird in these parts. Though I can’t say I ever noticed them until a couple of months ago…

The Grey Heron is great for beginner bird photography because it’s so large, has very photogenic tones, and flies around regularly!

Seen in the same locations as Great Egrets and Little Egrets. The bottom photo shows one with some rufous colouring.
