Identification Questions
If you have a bird photo which you would like to identify, feel free to send it to me at monacoeye+bird@gmail.com and I will try to identify it for you, posting it on forums if necessary. I will need the location and time of year.
Spelling
Standard spelling rules for bird names are not always adhered to on this site. Hyphens and capitals, and US and UK spelling, are applied depending on context…
In the index, Rüppell's Vulture is treated as if spelled "Ruppell's", not "Rueppell's". This is intentional, because it looks better to me, although technically incorrect. I'm guessing the majority of English-speaking birdwatchers are not familiar with Germanic spelling rules or how to type an umlaut on their keyboard.
Similarly "D'Arnaud's Barbet" appears below "Dark Faced Ground Tyrant" - the latter would normally be spelled "Dark-faced Ground-Tyrant", and the former might be placed above "Dalmatian Pelican" in some indexes.
Taxonomy
As of June 2010 I'm trying to adhere to the IOC taxonomy, including much of their spelling convention, so grey, not gray, but color, not colour! But I try to give both spellings.

Disclaimer
The identifications of birds on this site are the best I can come up with after looking at books, images on the internet, and asking questions in forums - nothing more! I do try to research the identifications as thoroughly as I possibly can.
By the law of averages, it seems inevitable that mistakes will be made eventually. So if you find a mistake, I’d appreciate an email to monacoeye+bird@gmail.com. Thanks!
